Here’s a question that I can’t figure out: why is the common name for this species the Partridge Bug? I’ve looked through nearly 200 years of research and I can’t find any “official” explanation. The only thing I can think of is the reticulated pattern at the end of the wing is sort of similar to the patterns on the Grey Partridge (a European game bird introduced to North America), but that’s a pretty weak name for a species with a nose like that! I’m open to all other theories, probable or otherwise. (at University of Guelph)
