Of course, it is not easy to memorize a lot of Latin names. When learning taxonomy for exams, I was running up the stairs - up and down … I managed to pass exams, so the method was sort of successful. The Latin names change very quickly, it is important to control them often, taxonomists work wery hard to make it really difficult, but it is really important to make everything clear - look at Parnassius apollo - so many subspecies are describe ( in 18-19th century every entomologist wish to give some names ) many of them are actually same thing.
Many times I have to think for a moment, but at some point they come, sometimes with small errors. You need to focus on your field, will be easier.
With the common names - I know Polish best, I grew up with these names, most entomologists uses them almost everyday to make life easier.
English - I know mostly very common species, but the easiest way is to look in the book ( most of entomologist use Latin - use it with people from other countries - it is universal :P )
When moved to Sweden I really try to learn myself some common names - but it is more or less like a black magic or calculation of theoretical astrophysics
plenty of kisses ^^’
I’m not sure when taxonomists turned evil and set out to ruin everyone’s lives, but I’m glad our centuries of effort are finally paying off.
