I love the idea that this guy in Texas was like “Did I just find a rodent in Texas that is NEW TO SCIENCE!?”
This is probably not that unlikely a scenario actually. Lotta weird stuff still waiting to be discovered in taxonomy & biodiversity science, even in our own backyards.
Hamsters are a pretty good consolation prize though.
